You Must Remember This

Our humanity is dependent on our sense of self, and our sense of self is mighty tenuous. Wrapped up in memory and perception, it's a trick of the cosmic light, an ethereal and ineffable thing that we've convinced ourselves is concrete and immutable. Watching a person's memories escape and cognition degrade is just difficult enough that we avert our eyes from it when we can. When we can't however, we get startling insight into what remains when things are lost in our heads without the ability to replace them. 

Walking through the park daily with an advanced Alzheimer's patient was the genesis of this project. He's retained his love of looking closely at nature and I looked closely alongside him.
