For years I would visit my parents in the desert community where they lived, wake up in the middle of the night, and drive to this bizarre lake in order to photograph at dawn. Beaches constituted entirely of the bones of Tilapia, cars that had disintegrated, homes in every possible state of use. The idea of "Ruin Porn" hadn't been implanted in my head yet but it also wasn't what I was after. I had never been exposed to a place where all upkeep had ceased on such a wide scale and the natural forces left to their own self interests. I found it gently reassuring that on some long time scale the world was completely indifferent to us.
